ST JOHN'S CHURCH, WYNBERG
Organ by Bevington & Sons, Soho, London. Date said to be 1859 and was first installed in St George’s Cathedral, Cape Town. When it was replaced in 1891, it was described as a ‘serviceable’ instrument, but the keyboards and pumping mechanism were very defective. It was rebuilt for St John’s Church and replaced the J W Walker organ which had stood in that church since 1858. It used the water powered bellows originally installed (since the 1870s) for the Walker organ. Further rebuilt in 1928 and 1971. The stop labels do not state the pitch.
